Apple's New Keyboard Design

I am already a huge fan of Apple, not only because their products are so easy to use, but because they are the definition of great design in my my eyes. This week Steve Jobs hosted a little event to announce the new iMacs, and updated software. But what I was the most interested in was the new design of their keyboard.

I think the new design of these keyboards are stunning. Time after time, Apple sets the bar high when coming out with new products, and this is no different. It’s also becoming a lot more apparent that all of their products influence each other as new generations of Macs progress.

Some seem to not like that the wireless keyboard doesn’t have a number pad, but that doesn’t bother me at all. I’m used to being on a laptop anyways, so I’m not used to having a number pad anyways. I can definitely say that I plan on purchasing one of these new keyboards in the near future. It makes me that much more anxious to see the new Leopard that gets releases later this year.

So, to all the designers at Apple…..good job, again!

  • I don’t want to shell out $80 for a new keyboard when the old one works just fine (and matches my last generation iMac) but if this space key keeps sticking I might just have an excuse to do so.

  • Beth, I totally understand, however, I’m a sucker for well design products. :)

  • Apple design just continues to get better and better. I want one of these keyboards…

  • I like Apple products, but this keyboard is full disappointment.
No number pad and it will kill your wrists.

I think it’s better to buy ergonomic keyboard from evil-company Microsoft. Yes, it will not look that cool and that slim, but it will take care of your hands (especially, when they type a lot).

  • It took me month to adjust to the keyboard on my black macbook because of the wide spacing between the keys and flatness. I still mess up on some more complex passwords and can’t type as fast. The new keyboards looks like an exact replica of the one on my laptop…

  • Stavanger, I too will have to get used to using the keyboard. I’m more used to the Macbook Pro keyboard, which I’ve grown to love. Hopefully the new keyboard don’t be too drastically different.

  • I agree with Beth, I think it looks awesome but I wouldn’t pay that much for just a new keyboard.

But I’m on a MacBook Pro so I don’t really have to worry:)

  • [...] Agosto 10th, 2007 El nuevo teclado de Apple / Tales of a Designer. • Could it be that the smaller wireless keyboard is based on the philosophy of doing stuff from anywhere in the house, even on the couch? With big monitors like that, and Apple TV, people might use this one as a kind of big remote control, no? No numerics would make sense then.

  • I just got the new keyboard and am really lovin it ! I think it all makes a lot of sense. On the contrary of what is said here, it doesn’t kill your wrists. It’s quite more comfortable than any keyboard I’ve used before as it feels almost like you are typing on the desk rather than on a keyboard there is no angle and no tension at all in the wrists. Actually, it makes you kinda wish the thing was really totally flat!

Also, after a very short while to get used to it, I am typing much faster in it than any previous desktop keyboard I used before. The low height of the keys allow are what makes the difference. It is a lot less tiring to use as your fingers don’t have to be raised as much as on other keyboards.

  • Geck, that’s awesome. I’m glad to hear that someone who’s bought this really likes using it. Makes it all the more easier for me to want one.
